VLURE "DESIRE" & "SHATTERED FAITH"

ROLE: On-set Direction, Film, Edit

TEAM: Justyna Welsh, Fraser Allan, Matt McGill, David Johnston, VLURE

THE BRIEF
VLURE, a club-influenced post-punk band from Glasgow, sought to capture the raw energy and rebellious spirit of their music in two visually distinct films: Desire and Shattered Faith. They wanted to reflect the brutalist feel of their home city, Glasgow. The band defies trends and creates their own, aiming to make viewers feel deeply with their raw, confrontational sound. Both films needed to visually match their intense live performances, while addressing themes of addiction, self-empowerment, and personal awakening.

THE RESULT

The films "Desire" and "Shattered Faith" captured VLURE’s bold energy and rebellious spirit. With a raw, minimalist aesthetic, the black-and-white visuals heightened the emotional intensity of each song.

"Desire" was shot in the building where VLURE started, capturing the essence of their live performance and reflecting themes of resisting addiction and empty desires. The harsh lighting and intimate shots conveyed an urgent, unfiltered look into the band’s world.

"Shattered Faith" combined angular post-punk visuals with the rhythmic energy of Glasgow's club scene, echoing themes of self-discovery and empowerment. The film visually embodied disillusionment and the chaotic thrill of reclaiming one's identity, resonating with the pulse of after-hours life. Both films showcased VLURE’s ability to challenge norms and evoke deep, visceral reactions, perfectly introducing their ethos to a wider audience.
